Review: My brush Collection: The body shop Slanted Kabuki vs Minerals powder foundation brush

If memory serves, this slanted kabuki brush is a limited edition last Christmas. It retailed at $28 and I got it for $10 when Body Shop had 3 for $10 sale. At first I did not like it that much as TBS mineral powder foundation brush. But ever since I have been using liquid foundation due to drier skin more often, my love to this slanted kabuki brush grows. 

If I apply for liquid or cream foundation, I usually set it with translucent finishing powder--no matter it's in a pressed powder form or loose powder.


Since I like so much the glowy and dewy finish liquid and cream foundations give, I want the beautiful sheen to show. In order to help the makeup last longer I set with powders. However almost all powders I have tried so far are too matte for my liking.

So one day I picked this brush up and decided to give it a try. It works wonders! It picks up the powders and distribute them evenly and lightly on my skin. It gives a very beautiful air brushed look with light- handed application process.

The synthetic fibre hair of this slanted kabuki brush is not as soft as the mineral powder brush though it does not irritates my skin. 

As you can see from the above pics, the slanted kabuki brush is almost twice bigger than the mineral powder foundation brush. 

To sum up, if you are going to apply powder foundation with better coverage, try the mineral powder foundation brush; if you want no powder- on- face look, go for slanted kabuki brush. 

Make your own double wear and colorstay with drugstore foundations-Rimmel lasting finish foundation & Revlon photo ready & The body shop extra virgin mineral foundation

Though both of them (double wear and color stay)  are great foundation and very popular among youtubers, they just have too many cons that I dislike.

My ideal  foundation should be offering great coverage with great staying power, it should also have decent spf and not too matte finish. I know it's not possible to find a foundation like this. So I try to do my own mix and match. 

I first pick up Rimmel 25 hour foundation in 100 ivory. It's a really long wearing foundation with great coverage yet not matte finish. The foundation is packed in a tube which makes it easy to apply and portable. It's also very sanitary. The second one I pick is Revlon photoready foundation spf 20. The active ingredients are titanium oxide and zinc oxide which are very effective in sun protection and also safe.  The shade I have is ivory, which is lighter than my nc 20 skin. This foundation has medium buildable coverage. It leaves your skin dewy and glowy. Also it comes with a pump!

The third one is The Body Shop extra virgin mineral liquid foundation. The Body Shop is not a drugstore brand, however it can be cheaper than drugstore foundations here in Canada. Since most of the drugstore foundations are over $14 CAD plus tax. I get this foundation when TBS has 3 for 10 promotion. The shade I use is golden ivory. But it's too dark and yellow for me.

I mix Rimmel: Revlon: TBS=1:1:1 and apply them on my face with my fingers. I found it give the best coverage. The three mixture gives full coverage and stay on very long. It does not transfer at all  to the end of the day. It does not make face look flat and matte, it gives a satin finish. It makes your skin look flawless and youthful. You also get perfect shade for your skin and some sun protection! 

I love this DIY and will try different combination with foundations! 

The body shop all in one face base

The body shop is famous for its body care products. However I found its makeup lines more interesting.

There are wide selections of shades. I found the colour 045 is very similar to my diorskin 021 linen.

The coverage is great, it covers up everything without feeling heavy at all. It does not accentuate fine line under my eyes.

It's not dry for my skin even apply it in the winter time.

The staying power is great, it can hold up to 8 hours without touch ups.

It comes with a mirror and sponge, and the refill is store in a portable round case.

The only one downside is that  there's no sunscreen in it.

Otherwise it's a perfect powder foundation!

The body shop nutriganics softening cleansing gel-dupe for clinique take the day off

This is probably one of my favourite the body shop skin care products.

The cleansing gel is with thick gel consistency. When I am lazy to use eye makeup remover, I use only this to remove everything on my face. It works wonders.

It can be the best dupe for clinique take the day off cleansing balm. The only problem is that I use up this very fast, while clinique cleansing balm stays long with me.
