Empty Review: Revlon Nearly Naked Powder

 

I am very proud of myself that I finish a drugstore pressed powder. Normally I cannot finish drugstore pressed powders because I do not think they work as wonder as department store powders.

Despite the fact I am not a fan of Revlon Nearly Naked foundation, I like Revlon Nearly Naked pressed powder very much.

The texture is so creamy and soft, which reminds me a lot of Diorskin nude. The coverage is light to medium, so I can use it either as a setting powder or a powder to add some more coverage. It's a pity that the lightest shade they offer here in Canada is 020 light, which is a tad darker than my skin. But it works so well as a light bronzer. Because the texture is so creamy and the powder is so finely milled, I can layer the powder and never feel it cakey on my skin.

The packaging is neat and clean, I prefer this white over black case.

Unfortunately the price is a little bit on the pricey side for a drugstore pressed powder, because it has only 8 grams and costs $11.99 CAD plus tax. I wish it could be cheaper.

Revlon Nearly Naked pressed powder is definitely a quality powder. I wish it could have more color selection and they can contain more products inside (for example 10 grams of pressed powder).

FOTD: Revlon Color Stay for Normal to Dry and Almay TLC Foundation

I decided to wear two foundations on my face to compare. They are both long wearing foundation with good coverage. I put Revlon Colorstay on left side of my face while Almay TLC on the right side.

I have them both in shade buff. They both have super good coverage and staying power. I am very happy with their performance today. 

Revlon seems to have a tiny bit better coverage than Almay. But it's not easy to detect. I wore them today to go hiking under sun for an hour and they both stayed very well. They did not leave any mark around my nose where I put my sun glasses.  They both stayed for more than 8 hours without touching up. 

It's 15 degree in Toronto today. Humidity 72 %. 

Review: Revlon New complexion one step makeup

This cream to powder foundation has a different finish from Cover Girl Aaqua

smooth compact. Revlon's finish is either matte or glowy, it's in between. 

As you can see from the swatch, the foundation has a slightly dry feel. If you do not blend it carefully, it can be cakey and can accentuate dry patches on the skin.

The coverage is great. In fact this compact foundation can work as a concealer.

 It does take time to blend since it seems to dry fast on my skin. But the finish is good and the coverage is superb. The shade I got is slightly pinkier than my skin tone. 

Does it deserve the name "one step" ? Yes and No. I say yes because it has very good coverage and you can skip the concealer; I say no because it takes time to blend. 

How to: Make Revlon Nearly Naked covers better and less runny

In my previous review on Revlon nearly naked foundation, I mentioned some of the cons about it. I recently found a new way to apply it and to solve some of the problems.

1. Moisturize your skin.  Here I use Yves rocher hydrating toner and  Lancome blanc expert emulsion. Since it was a tasting home, I don't wear sunscreen. (photo courtesy: yvesrocher.ca)

2. Put a thin layer of powder with light coverage such as Loreal true match pressed powder; Yves Rocher loose powder or Yves Rocher matte comfort powder.


3. Apply Revlon nearly naked foundation with your fingers. Since there's a layer of powder, the liquid is less runny on your face, and it becomes easier to apply. It also have almost full coverage since there's a layer of powder with light coverage before.

However you have to blend it carefully. It becomes a little bit hard to blend because of the powder underneath. Foundation brushes can make blending easier than fingers.

4. Set it with transparent loose powder. I use Cle de Peau's loose powder. You can skip this step if you want. Because we put a layer of powder before the liquid foundation, it becomes not sticky on the face. I prefer the luminous effect CDP powder offers.

5. Now you get  better coverage and longer staying power with nearly naked foundation.

However, it takes much longer time to do apply your base makeup than usual. I feel that I can get the same effect in a minute by using Cover Girl aquasmooth or some powder foundations with good coverage.

But it's a good way to make some use of the foundation that I am not crazy about.

Revlon nearly naked powder review

Revlon nearly naked powder has creamy and soft texture. It reminds me of Diorskin fusion powder foundation. Dior has better coverage and beautiful finish with spf 25.

The packaging of this pressed powder is elegant. I like the white case with the white sponge inside. Though the sponge does not work well for me and it disappeared somewhere long time ago. 

It contains around 7 gram of powder and it retails at $11.99 CAD plus tax, which is quite pricey. 

The pressed powder has some light coverage. It cannot work itself as a powder foundation. The lightest color here I can find is light, which is a tad darker than my skin tone. I use it to contour my face and it works good. 

All in all, it's a good pressed powder to offer some light coverage on top of foundations. It cannot work as a powder foundation. It does not work well alone but it can work really fine with any types of foundation. 

Revlon nearly naked liquid foundation review

Revlon nearly naked liquid foundation and powder are not new products this year. The liquid foundation has been very popular among youtube community.Many people love this product, however, I do not think it worth the hype.

Firstly, it's about the spf in the foundation. It looks there's no spf 20 in the foundation in the Canadian version. 

Secondly, there's no pump. I dislike mess myself up when applying for makeup. 

Third, the texture is not for me. This liquid foundation seems to be extremely liquid-y and runny to me. It's not easy to apply. 

Fourth, it seems to irritate me. Paula gives very high mark for this foundation. It's supposed to be nice to sensitive skin, however it seems not to be the case to me. I always feel itchy and stinging on my skin after I apply it. I am not sure why. My skin just does not agree with this product. 

Fifth, it does not offer coverage. To me it's offers much less coverage than Revlon's photo ready BB cream. 

Last but not least, I am not a big fan with the finish. I do not know how to describe the finish of this foundation, it's definitely not matte, nor glowy dewy. It's not satin either. 

All in all, I cannot find any pros to like this foundation. Revlon had much better foundations such as photo ready or age defying. It's really not for me. I have lots of expectation with this foundation because everybody seems to love it so much and there are so many good review out there for this foundation. I really want to like this foundation because I know Revlon cannot go wrong with foundations. To me it does not worth the hype. 

Make your own double wear and colorstay with drugstore foundations-Rimmel lasting finish foundation & Revlon photo ready & The body shop extra virgin mineral foundation

Though both of them (double wear and color stay)  are great foundation and very popular among youtubers, they just have too many cons that I dislike.

My ideal  foundation should be offering great coverage with great staying power, it should also have decent spf and not too matte finish. I know it's not possible to find a foundation like this. So I try to do my own mix and match. 

I first pick up Rimmel 25 hour foundation in 100 ivory. It's a really long wearing foundation with great coverage yet not matte finish. The foundation is packed in a tube which makes it easy to apply and portable. It's also very sanitary. The only downside is that it has no spf in it and the ingredients seems to be too complicated.   (photo courtesy http://ca-en.rimmellondon.com)

The second one I pick is Revlon photoready foundation spf 20. The active ingredients are titanium oxide and zinc oxide which are very effective in sun protection and also safe.  The shade I have is ivory, which is lighter than my nc 20 skin. This foundation has medium buildable coverage. It leaves your skin dewy and glowy. Also it comes with a pump!

The third one is The Body Shop extra virgin mineral liquid foundation. The Body Shop is not a drugstore brand, however it can be cheaper than drugstore foundations here in Canada. Since most of the drugstore foundations are over $14 CAD plus tax. I get this foundation when TBS has 3 for 10 promotion. The shade I use is golden ivory. But it's too dark and yellow for me.

I mix Rimmel: Revlon: TBS=1:1:1 and apply them on my face with my fingers. I found it give the best coverage. The three mixture gives full coverage and stay on very long. It does not transfer at all  to the end of the day. It does not make face look flat and matte, it gives a satin finish. It makes your skin look flawless and youthful. You also get perfect shade for your skin and some sun protection! 

I love this DIY and will try different combination with foundations! 

The cons of Estee lauder double wear or Revlon colorstay --how to improve and make your own

Estee lauder double wear and Revlon colorstay liquid are famous for their long staying power and great coverage. However these two foundations are not so appealing to me.

Firstly, I dislike their package without pump. I do not why, estee lauder is such a high end cosmetic company and a jar of 30ml liquid foundation costs $42 CAD plus tax, and they cannot even offer a pump for the most famous double wear? Revlon is also a high end drugstore liquid foundation which costs $16,99 CAD or sometimes 19,99 at shoppers, also offers no pump for its foundation.

Secondly, though the coverage is great, the finish is too matte. Don't get me wrong, I like matte finish foundation. But there are so many good powder foundation offers totally matte finish with great coverage (you guys know how many powder foundations I have tried), why should I spend so much time pouring the liquid out from a jar to make everything messy and  blending the foundation and set with loose powder? With powder foundation I just apply it and stipple it into my skin in a minutes and everything is done! They also look flawless on my skin and they are extreme long wear! No with the same effect, I do not want to spend extra time for that!

Third, there's no good spf in the liquid both liquid foundations. I know in the US revlon colorstay has spf 15 for dry skin and spf 6 for oily skin, but there's no spf for Canadians. Also, the double wear has only spf 10 on it. To me spf 10 means there's no sun protection at all because you can get minimal protection from sun by wearing spf 15. I just went to EL counter last week and found the newer version has no spf at all! Some people may say that spf leaves white cast on the flash photo, but personally I dislike flash photo so it is not a big problem for me.

Fourth, they seem to me too dry for my skin. I don't know why, but it seems that good powder foundations can even offer some moisture on the skin. They will not even sit on the fine lines under eyes. I have one old version el double wear, it really offers good coverage. But it seem to be too dry for me. It accentuate my fine line under eye which I dislike at all.

I know how people love el and revlon foundations, but they are just not for me. Therefore I decided to make my own "better version of double wear and colorstay", please read the next article.
